Types and Advantages of Inoculation Rings and Cell Spreaders

Laboratory technicians and researchers have to plant and streak dozens of samples every day for storage and diagnosis. They have to be very careful when extracting materials from samples to prepare cultures for clinical testing or diagnosis. Depending on the way a microbiologist works and the tasks involved, he or she may use one, two, or all of the following methods:

Types of Inoculating Ring and Their Advantages

1.In most laboratory products, the inoculation ring can be calibrated or noncalibrated.

2.Many rings have tiny wire handles. They are called loops.

3.The rings available on the market can be made of metal (e.g. nichrome) or plastic.

4.Metal loops are more versatile, but also expensive. Many microbiologists use Plastic Inoculation Loops to electroplate and scribe various specimens in microbiological laboratories every day.

5.There are different styles of disposable (plastic) inoculating loops. Depending on the quality of the material, their flexibility or stiffness may vary greatly.

6.The high-quality inoculating ring does not contain any type of lubricant or even static charge. These circuits are slightly more expensive, but they ensure accuracy by helping laboratory researchers completely transfer the liquid by uniform wetting.

Many microbiologists prefer rings with hexagonal axes. These rings are easy to grasp. Therefore, the ring head can be easily oriented in any desired direction.

Types of Cell Spreaders and Their Advantages

The spreader is mainly T-shaped or L-shaped. They are made of plastic or metal.

Microbiologists use a T-cell spreader to spread or disperse various liquids evenly on the surface of the culture plate.

Using a T-shaped distributor, a technician or researcher can apply pressure evenly over the entire surface area of the agar culture plate.

The surface of the best T-cell spreader is completely smooth and round to eliminate the possibility of agar scratch when inoculating the culture plate.

The L-shaped cell spreader is also used to spread the liquid sample evenly on the surface of the agar culture plate and read it for inoculation.

A high-quality L-shaped sling is a little expensive but does not contain any plastic impurities or rough edges, to ensure the high accuracy of test results.

Although nonsterile cell seeders are usually bulk (relatively low cost), sterile cell seeders are packaged separately and sold at a slightly higher price. Microbiologists can choose one of the two according to the task at hand.

Before making the final purchase decision, you must consider the manufacturer's certification when choosing the inoculating ring and cell spreaders.
